A product co-developed with Yannick Bestaven (winner of the 2020 Vendée Globe) to withstand a demanding round-the-world race
The Tribord Offshore PRO set has been developed and tested with Yannick Bestaven and our pro skipper partners. It meets the demands of all types of competitions, transatlantic, offshore, single-handed, with a crew and on different boats: Yannick Bestaven (IMOCA), Quentin Vlamynck (Ocean 50), Achille Nebout, the VOILEUSES AU LARGE, Keni Piperol (Class 40), Romain Le Gall (Figaro 3), Sasha Laniece and Léo Bothorel (Mini 6.50)
Particular features of the Offshore PRO SERIES shell jacket
In comparison with our 900 dungarees, the PRO SERIES dungarees:
- are more hardwearing
- with comfortable, waterproof neoprene cuffs
- collar and hood with a wide field of vision
- special reinforcement across the buttocks
- zip-free to prevent salt corrosion
The PRO SERIES jacket has been designed to be used in combination with the PRO SERIES Offshore dungarees (model code 8803719).
Waterproofing of the shell jacket
The jacket has been designed to keep you dry in all conditions, thanks to :
- Soft, waterproof neoprene cuffs that are gentle on the skin
- A soft, waterproof neoprene collar that is comfortable against the skin, lined with a textile collar to protect the mouth and nose, which can be folded to the side.
- Collar to protect the back of the neck
- Adjustable neoprene waistband
- All seams are taped
The fabric’s water resistance level
The fabric, developed by our DECATHLON laboratory, is constructed with a 3-layer membrane, resistant to a water pressure of 30,000 mm Schmerbers (JIS standard).
This means that the product is waterproof, breathable and light.
The product has been tested using a rainstorm simulator, reproducing rainfall of 450 L/M²/h for 24 hours (3x8 hours) and in several races with our partner professional skippers.
Double cuffs
- Neoprene cuffs (glide skin surface) that prevent water from leaking in. Selected for their flexibility, stretch and comfort.
- The textile sleeve fits on top of the neoprene cuff and stops the water pressure applied by the waves.
Adjustable with rip-tab, the textile sleeves are made from a soft fabric for greater freedom of movement.
Neoprene collar and neck protection
Like on the sleeves, a neoprene neck prevents the water from leaking in.
An adjustable textile collar covers the neoprene collar to stop water pressure and prevent ingress. It can be adjusted with a rip-tab.
An outlet is provided for the water that flows between the textile neck and the neoprene neck.
Why neoprene instead of Latex?
The neoprene used is as waterproof as latex. It has the advantage of being comfortable, more flexible and more UV resistant.
Protection for the face, nose and nape of the neck
The collar fully protects the back of the neck without obstructing the front of the face.
It offers perfect vision and the ears are also uncovered for greater awareness.
This collar can also be used to stow the hood. It is fleece-lined.
The muffler: in cold or wet weather, it provides protection for most of the face, while still allowing good visibility. It can be put on and taken off with one hand and can be attached to the back of the hood.
Hood
Designed to provide the widest possible field of vision and optimal protection against rain and wind
It is inspired by the shape of a cap, with a rigid visor, and it remains firmly in place and does not interfere with any manœuvres
Adjustment at the back of the head
It follows the movements of your head, guaranteeing clear visibility on the side or the top of the mast.
In storm configuration (face shield + nose shield + hood), only the eyes are uncovered.
Front pocket
This shell jacket has 1 large front pocket:
Open pocket for both hands, not waterproof, with a fleece lining to keep your hands warm when on watch.
The pocket has a drainage system to facilitate water evacuation.
Abrasion resistance
A stiff challenge for this shell jacket: to withstand the abrasion of an IMOCA deck.
Component exclusive to DECATHLON that is very strong and placed on the seat and the back of the thighs.
How to choose the size of your shell jacket
The cut of the product is loose. It is designed to be worn with thermal underlayers and a fleece underneath.
For men, choose your usual size.
Women should choose one size smaller than their usual size
How to wash your shell jacket
After use, rinse the shell jacket thoroughly with clean water, without forgetting the neoprene cuffs to remove any salt.
Dry on a line in a well ventilated place, rather than on a hanger, which may damage the neoprene neck.
The loop on the back allows you to hook your shell jacket onto a hook or coat rack.
Caution: never dry your shell jacket directly on a radiator.
Once dry, you can apply talc to the neoprene.
How to store your shell jacket
Storage on dry land: fold the jacket in its bag, and store in a dry place at ambient temperature
At sea: store it in the cover to avoid the neoprene snagging on anything
