Did you know?
Poor mucking out, mud, damp conditions and poor hoof care are the main causes of rot in the frog. Once rot has set in, the frog loses its flexibility and strength, which are the properties that enable it to cushion and support the weight of the horse when moving.
A rotten frog has a spongy appearance and becomes black, discoloured and foul-smelling.
