Flapping wings that are triggered by the wind
Our new 520 decoy is based on our 3D 500 decoy (same colour scheme and size), to which we have added a tail and flapping wings.
The purpose of flapping wings?
To achieve greater realism and attractiveness: when the wind blows, however lightly, the wings move and undulate, to imitate a game bird settling. As a result, the decoy can be spotted by game birds more easily and from a greater distance.
The wings and tail: a specific design to improve the decoy's efficiency
In designing the wings and tail, we considered the importance of using white on the plumage as a key element to increase the game birds' lifelike quality. The same is true for the various shades of grey, black and blue. With this in mind, our designers have focused on contouring to achieve the closest match to the true plumage of a game bird.
In practice, just how do these wings perform in the wind?
The wings are placed on either side of the decoy by means of two springs on each flank. This feature provides the wings with extra sensitivity to the wind. This means that the wings can remain in motion even in a light breeze, thus prolonging the illusion of a game bird's flight.
The material used is EVA foam. Why? It is a flexible and wear-resistant material. Lastly, the chosen thickness for the wings and tail (2.5 mm) offers the best balance in terms of weight and mobility.
A versatile decoy featuring two positioning options thanks to the built-in clip-on stem.
On top of our 520 game bird decoy with flapping wings, we have kept the 2 holes already present on the 500 and 900 velvet decoys: this means you are still able to use the integrated stem to switch between the 2 available positions. A space is provided for this under the decoy (no need to carry the components separately and risk losing the stem).
The decoy's realism: an essential factor for any enthusiast of game bird shooting
When shooting game birds in flight, it is essential that the decoys laid out on the ground be as solid, comprehensive and realistic as possible to lure the game birds. Thanks to the lifelike design and movement of this decoy, the flock you lay out (in particular, with beaks pointing into the wind) maximises your chances of attracting them. The paint used mimics the game bird's colours as closely as possible, and can also withstand deterioration due to sunlight, rain, sand and friction.
High-quality paintwork that withstands the elements: highlight of this decoy
In a field of wheat, maize, rapeseed and elsewhere, this "dummy" is devastatingly effective. What accounts for this? In particular, the high-quality paint used together with a flame treatment stage to prolong the life of the product. To help your decoys stand the test of time, we have selected a durable coating designed to withstand the vagaries of weather, transport and storage.
A bag to properly carry and store your decoy and its components
When setting off to the shooting spot, often on foot, we tend to be carrying a lot of gear: shotgun, hide, decoys... It is not uncommon in game bird hunting to be carrying around 15, 20, 30 decoys, and sometimes even more. We have therefore designed a carrying bag to help you store the 520 decoy. This bag, which opens and closes using a flap and 2 rip-tab fasteners, is designed with a single compartment to safely store the decoy, its wings, and its tail.
How to position your decoys on the ground
Three main considerations should be taken into account: the direction of wind, the direction from which the game birds will come, and where you are stationed. Several decoy patterns are possible; if conditions are ideal (the wind blowing at your back and the game birds coming head on), then place the decoys 20-25 m from your hide in a broad "U" shape on the ground so that the game birds come in to land in the middle, by placing the motion-equipped decoys at the entrance of the decoy pattern.
Increase your chances of attracting game birds with these tricks
To further improve the realism of your decoy pattern, we recommend that you complement it with our 100 decoys, 500 3D and 900 velvet decoys, and wind-facing motion-equipped decoys such as our 920 decoy at the entrance to your decoy pattern. Finally, wear camo clothes and don't forget your hide! For example, see our shield-style hide. These tips will enable you to spot the game birds in the distance slowing down, gliding and coming in to land.
