A decoy with flapping wings that flies in the air and moves in the wind
The design of our new 920 decoy is based on that of our 900 velvet decoy, to which we have added a flapping tail and wings. We also provide 2 metal poles that can be pushed into the soil, to which 6 strands are attached to enable you to fly the decoy in the air. The full set up simulates a bird that is flying down to land: the slightest ripple of a breeze triggers the flapping mechanisms on the decoy at the end of the stem and creates movement.
A 3-in-1 set up: we explain why
There are 3 ways of using this decoy:
-option 1: Decoy pushed into the soil using the 26.5 cm plastic stem (included)
-option 2: Decoy pushed into the soil using the 59.5 cm dual metal pole (the 26.5 cm plastic stem is inserted into the metal pole): results in a position that is higher than option 1 and involves movement.
-option 3: Decoy pushed into the soil using the dual metal pole, which also supports the opened-out 6-strand stem that is inserted directly into the decoy.
The wings and tail: a specific design to improve the decoy's efficiency
The velvet finish on this 920 decoy results in a more natural appearance as well as reducing shine caused by the sun’s rays. In addition, when designing the wings and tail, we were very careful to add touches of white on the feathers, as this makes the decoy much more realistic. The same is true for the various shades of grey, black and blue. Our designers also put a lot of thought into the shape and outline, to ensure a highly realistic effect.
In practice, just how do these wings perform in the wind?
The wings are placed on either side of the decoy by means of two springs on each flank. This feature provides the wings with extra sensitivity to the wind. This means that the wings can remain in motion even in a light breeze, thus prolonging the illusion of a game bird's flight. The key component used to achieve this is EVA foam. Why? Because it is a fairly supple material with good abrasion resistance. Lastly, the thickness of the wings and tail (2.5 mm) offers the best weight/movement ratio.
Several tests are necessary to produce a highly realistic decoy
When hunting for game birds in flight, it is very important that the decoy pattern is as realistic as possible. The velvet treatment on this model minimises the shine caused by the sun's rays and highlights the various shades of colour. After numerous tests in the field, we are convinced that this decoy will make your decoy pattern even more realistic.
A bag to properly carry and store your decoy and its components
You often have to walk to the stand, with a lot of accessories to carry: shotgun, hide, decoys... It is not uncommon in game bird hunting to be carrying around 15, 20, 30 decoys, and sometimes even more. That’s why we have designed a carry bag that is perfectly suited to the 920 decoy. This bag is opened and closed via a flap with 2 rip-tabs and is designed with 3 compartments for careful storage of the decoy, wings and tail, metal poles and 6 strands.
What about environmentally friendly design?
On top of our 520 game bird decoy with flapping wings, we have kept the 2 holes already present on the 500 and 900 velvet decoys: this means you are still able to use the integrated stem to switch between the 2 available positions. A space is provided for this under the decoy (no need to carry the components separately and risk losing the stem).
How to position your decoys on the ground
When shooting game birds in flight, it is essential that the decoys laid out on the ground be as solid, comprehensive and realistic as possible to lure the game birds. Thanks to the lifelike design and movement of this decoy, the flock you lay out (in particular, with beaks pointing into the wind) maximises your chances of attracting them. The paint used mimics the game bird's colours as closely as possible, and can also withstand deterioration due to sunlight, rain, sand and friction.
Increase your chances of attracting game birds with these tricks
To make your decoy pattern even more realistic, we recommend you supplement it with our 100 shell decoys, our 500 3D, 520 decoys with flapping wings, and our velvet 900 model, all positioned facing into the wind. Finally, wear camo clothes and don't forget your hide! For example, see our shield-style hide. These tips will enable you to spot the game birds in the distance slowing down, gliding and coming in to land.
