An HD game bird decoy designed to maximise your chances of attracting woodpigeons
This plastic model is the first shell decoy of a game bird entirely designed by our teams. At Solognac, our aim for game bird shooting is to facilitate encounters between shooter and woodpigeon: this means reducing the distance between game bird and enthusiast. The realistic colours, dimensions and position of this plastic model therefore play a key role in your ability to attract these game birds.
The steps required to design Solognac's first game bird decoy
This decoy required several months of development. It all began with the work of a wood carver who brought the first prototype to life. 3D modelling was then carried out, along with various adjustments to the dimensions and posture, to produce a true-to-life decoy. A series of colorimetry and 3D-texturing phases for the feathers, interspersed with testing in the field, culminated in a decoy with ultra-realistic colouring.
The decoy's realism: an essential factor for any enthusiast of game bird shooting
When shooting game birds in flight, it is essential that the decoys laid out on the ground be as solid, comprehensive and realistic as possible to lure the game birds. With this decoy, the flock you lay out (in particular, with beaks pointing into the wind) maximises your chances of attracting them. The paint used mimics the game bird's colours as closely as possible, and also withstands deterioration due to sunlight, rain, sand and being rubbed against other decoys when transported, for example.
High-quality paintwork that withstands the elements: highlight of this decoy
In a wheat, corn or rapeseed field, this "dummy" is devastatingly effective. What accounts for this? In particular, the high-quality paint used together with a flame treatment stage to prolong the life of the product. Knowing that you often use the same decoys from one season to the next, we above all wanted to offer one with durable paint designed to withstand weather conditions, transport and storage.
A versatile decoy: two positions possible with the built-in clip-on stem
When setting off to your shooting spot on foot, you often carry a lot of gear: shotgun, hide, carry bag, etc. It is not uncommon when shooting woodpigeons to carry 15, 20, 30 or more decoys. As such, our new model features two holes on the top: you can choose whether the decoy mimics a game bird that is eating or a game bird standing up with the built-in stem. A space is provided for this under the decoy (no need to carry the components separately and risk losing the stem).
How to position your decoys on the ground
Shooters are recommended not to install their game bird decoys at random.Three main considerations should be taken into account: the direction of wind, the direction from which the game birds will come, and where you are stationed.Several decoy patterns are possible, but if conditions are ideal (the wind blowing from behind you and the game birds coming head on), then place the decoys 20-25 m from your hide in a broad "U" shape on the ground so that the game birds come in to land in the middle.
Increase your chances of attracting game birds with these tricks
To further increase the realism of your array of decoys, we recommend that you supplement them with our other new 100 shell decoys and mobile decoys positioned facing into the wind (such as hypaflaps or rotating-wing game bird decoys for movement). Finally, wear camo clothes and don't forget your hide! For example, see our shield-style hide. These tips will enable you to spot the game birds in the distance slowing down, gliding and coming in to land.
