Fabric water repellency (not to be confused with waterproofing)
Water repellency is a fabric's ability to make water run off its surface, without absorbing it.
Your jacket will not soak up water, and will remain light and breathable. The fabric is made waterproof by applying a treatment to the outside, but this can wear off through use.
